SpanishVIP offers pause options to provide flexibility to students enrolled in longer-term programs, particularly 3-month and 6-month subscriptions.
Subscriptions of one (1) month are generally not eligible for pauses, as they are short-term programs. In limited and exceptional situations, pause requests may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval.
For absences longer than two weeks, SpanishVIP offers the following options:
- Official Pause: The paused time does not count against the student’s subscription. Current Assigned Teacher availability upon return is not guaranteed.
- Temporary Break: The subscription remains active and billing continues during the break in order to reserve the teacher’s schedule.
Please note pause options are designed for students who need to step away from their private classes for an extended period so absences of less than two weeks do not qualify for a pause request. Short absences are treated as regular absences and do not result in subscription extensions or billing adjustments. During this period, students are encouraged to coordinate directly with their teacher regarding future lesson planning, independent study materials, or receiving optional learning activities while they are unable to attend classes.
5.1 Official Pause #
An Official Pause is designed for students who need to step away from their private classes for an extended period of time. Under an Official Pause, the student’s subscription and billing are temporarily frozen, meaning the paused time does not count toward the subscription period.
Because the subscription is placed on hold, teacher availability upon return is not guaranteed. Once the pause ends, students may be reassigned to a different teacher depending on availability at the time of reactivation.
5.1.1 Official Pause Duration #
An Official Pause must meet the following duration requirements:
- Minimum duration: two (2) consecutive weeks
- Maximum duration: six (6) consecutive months
If the maximum pause period of six (6) months is exceeded, the subscription will automatically reactivate, even if the student has not yet resumed classes, as this is the maximum pause duration allowed.
Please note that absences shorter than two weeks do not qualify as an Official Pause. In such cases, the subscription remains active and standard absence policies apply.
5.1.2 Official Pause Eligibility #
To be eligible for an Official Pause:
- The student must have more than one (1) month remaining on their subscription at the time the pause is requested.
- Official Pauses are generally available only for 3-month and 6-month plans, in accordance with the Subscription Pauses Policy.
5.1.3 Number of Allowed Official Pauses #
A minimum of one (1) month must pass between Official Pauses for them to be considered valid.
The maximum number of Official Pauses permitted per subscription is as follows:
- 3-month plan: one (1) Official Pause
- 6-month plan: two (2) Official Pauses
Unused pause allowances do not carry over to future subscriptions.
5.1.4 Official Pause Request Process #
To request an Official Pause, students must:
- Submit a request by email to support@spanishvip.com
- Send the request at least three (3) business days before the intended start date of the pause
All requests are reviewed by the Student Success Team, who will confirm eligibility and provide next steps. Please note that communication with the teacher does not constitute an official pause request.
Documentation is not required unless the request involves exceptional circumstances that warrant verification.
5.1.5 Official Confirmation #
An Official Pause is considered valid only after the student receives a formal confirmation email from the Student Success Team. This confirmation will include:
- The approved start date of the pause
- The remaining time of the subscription period
- Instructions for resuming classes
5.1.6 Holidays and Non-Instructional Days #
Official holidays and pre-announced non-instructional days are not included in pause calculations and do not result in subscription extensions or make-up classes.
These dates are communicated in advance and are governed by the Holiday Policy (see corresponding section).
5.1.7 Subscription Reactivation #
Once a student is ready to resume classes after an Official Pause, has not exceeded the maximum pause period of six (6) months, and has remaining time on their subscription, the student must notify the Student Success Team by emailing support@spanishvip.com.
To allow sufficient time for scheduling and teacher assignment, students are required to notify SpanishVIP at least two (2) weeks in advance of their intended return date. This advance notice helps ensure a smoother reactivation process.
Please note that pause requests and subscription reactivations are not processed on weekends or official holidays. Requests submitted outside of business days will be reviewed on the next available business day, and students must wait for official confirmation before resuming classes.
5.1.8 Teacher Availability Upon Return #
SpanishVIP cannot guarantee that the originally assigned teacher will be available upon return from an Official Pause. While the Student Success Team will make a reasonable effort to reassign the same teacher, availability cannot be ensured.
Students who wish to guarantee retention of their current teacher must keep billing active and select the Temporary Break option instead.
5.2 Temporary Break #
Designed for students who wish to take a break from classes while keeping their currently assigned teacher. Under this option, the subscription remains active and billing continues during the break in order to reserve the student’s regular time slot on the teacher’s schedule.
No subscription time is frozen or extended under a Temporary Break, and missed classes during this period are not rescheduled or refunded.
Temporary Breaks do not require formal approval from SpanishVIP and are usually managed directly between the student and the teacher. Teachers will notify SpanishVIP internally of the agreed break period.
Students may inform support@spanishvip.com as a courtesy if they wish; however, this is not mandatory, as no subscription changes are required. Instead, students are encouraged to communicate and coordinate directly with their teacher regarding how they wish to proceed during that period. At the teacher’s discretion, optional self-study materials, projects, or preparation tasks may be provided so the student can continue practicing independently.
Students who wish to freeze their subscription or pause billing must request an Official Pause instead, which follows a different process.
Please note temporary Breaks are typically used for short-term absences (2-3 weeks).
5.3 Special Circumstance Pauses #
SpanishVIP may grant a Special Circumstance Pause in exceptional situations such as documented medical conditions, serious family emergencies, or unexpected long-term travel obligations, among others. These pauses are not guaranteed and are approved case by case by the Student Success Manager.
Students may be required to provide supporting documentation depending on the situation. When granted, the subscription is temporarily frozen for a defined period, and the student will retain all unused classes upon return. Teacher availability is not guaranteed during or after the pause, although SpanishVIP will attempt to accommodate preferences when possible.
All requests must be submitted in advance to support@spanishvip.com. Communications with teachers do not constitute an official pause request.
